Dr. Tanner is an International Researcher who has visited and shared his research in multiple international venues including: China, Philippines, South Africa, Austria, France, Italy, Greece, Jamaica, England, and Belize, He has also assisted in organizing graduate student study abroad programs in Belize, China, and South Africa.

Dr. Tanner received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Cultural Studies from the University of Houston, Master of Education in School Administration and Supervision from Southern University, and Bachelor of Arts in History Education from Newberry College.
He has authored numerous peer reviewed articles and books focused on building effective schools,parent/school partnerships, best practices in parenting, teacher efficacy, and culturally responsive leadership and instruction.
His research agenda focuses on closing achievement gaps, building strong parent/school partnerships, dispelling deficit model thinking, teacher efficacy, and culturally responsive leadership and instruction. He has been the recipient of over $2,500, 000 in awarded grants and contracts. He is a member of national educational associations where he serves in various leadership roles. He has chaired and co-chaired more than 30 dissertations on issues impacting P-16 institutions. As a consultant, he has facilitated countless research-based workshops both nationally and internationally for more than 350,000 educational leaders and community stakeholders.
Dr. Tanner’s career includes serving as a higher education administrator, K-12 central office administrator, professor, K-12 middle and high school administrator, and K-12 teacher. His experiences as both a K-12 practitioner and higher education researcher inform his P-16 beliefs that all children can learn. In fact, he believes when provided with a culturally responsive environment, all children can learn with exceptionality. As a father and educator, he is committed and dedicated to developing the tools necessary for educators and parents to experience success with all children.
